It seems my sister is out of the woods! Praise the Lord and yippee skippy!!!! :o)
They kept her in the hospital overnight for observation; they gave her IV antibiotics and ran several tests including blood work, an EKG and a chest X-ray. All came back normal/clear. There is no sign of infection, which would lead to sepsis.
However, the doctors are still unsure as to why her temperature shot up the way it did if she's not sick. But due to the fact that a low-grade temp can sometimes occur in Lupus patients during a flare-up, this may be what it is. She hasn't had a flare-up in quite some time (and believed herself to be in remission), which may be why this one hit her so hard.
I did speak to her this morning, and it sounds like the doctors will be releasing her later today. She's anxious to get back home to her boys and her dog, Valentino (who hasn't left her side of the bed!).
Thank you all for your prayers and concern. They have been felt in an amazing way, and I'm truly grateful to you all.
Please pray for her, should the Lord bring her to mind. This is such a wake-up call to all of us; she's not Lupus-free. She's not "cured". And although this was "only a drill", the real thing could be around the corner. Thanks, everyone. (((HUGS)))
