Review: PG SafeKey

With internet dangers increasing by the day, parents are constantly on the lookout for a simple, effective way to keep their kids safe online--without breaking their budgets or destroying their sanity in the process! Enter the PG SafeKey...

PG SafeKey is a USB device that allows you to keep your child(ren) safe online. It's award winning, patent-pending design allows parents with little to no computer experience to effectively monitor their child's computer usage for such horrors as cyberbullying, porn, child predators and more.

To use the PG SafeKey, all you have to do is plug it into any open USB port and go through the registration steps. Once your SafeKey is successfully registered, you then have access to all the parental control features such as:

Time Lock - Limit the amount of time your child spends online. This is a supremely cool feature that I thoroughly enjoyed using on each of my children. (Hee hee)

SafeSearch - While I see the purpose if it, this feature actually drove me nuts at first when I used it on my personal laptop. I do a lot of Googling throughout the day for work, etc. and it blocked nearly everything I tried to search for--and yes, my searches were all benign. However, after a few minor adjustments to the "allowed vs. blocked" feature, peace reigned across the land once more. ;-)

Alerts - The PG SafeKey will send the parent/administrator emails each time a forbidden site, keyword, etc is used or searched. It'll also let you know if your child tries to disable or otherwise uninstall this "mother's little helper"! I can see this being a great feature for those parents who have to work outside the home or whose children use their own computers (and aren't too fond of the whole parental control thing).

Session Recorder - Now this baby is by far the coolest aspect of all, bar-none! With the Session Recorder, parents can watch a complete "movie" of their child's computer activity, exactly as it happened. It covers all web browsing, emails, offline game activity, etc.

The PG SafeKey is a one-time investment of $49.99. There are no subscription fees of any kind, making this a very economical choice. I would personally recommend the PG SafeKey to any parent who doesn't have the time, or the (ahem!) patience to learn a new software program. The PG SafeKey is an effective parental control device that would serve many of today's families very well.
