Rockin’ the Hairnet

Guess what? I landed a job. A real, bona fide “must leave the house” job. It’s only an on-call weekend position but it’s mine and I’m grateful.

Granted, I’m having a hard time adjusting to the idea of actually leaving my family for 8+ hours at a time—even if it is only 1-2 days a week. But I’ve been praying for a job, one that would work with my current schedule, and I finally found one.

So, what’s the job you ask? Well, I’m a…{clearing throat for emphasis} cafeteria worker at the local hospital. Yep, it’s true. Glamorous, right?

Picture it. Me…in an apron…and a hairnet. Will I be fabulously divalicious or what?! Smile {You can stop laughing now.}

Truth be told, I’ll only be wearing the hairnet part of the time as my duties will be split between the dish room and the cash register. {And if it’s one thing I can do—and do well—is take people’s money with a smile! Ha ha ha! Well, that and wash dishes. But that’s not nearly as humorous now is it?}

I don’t have my official start date quite yet, but I go in tomorrow to fill out all sorts of paperwork and get various {totally ghastly} tests and immunizations out of the way. {Shudder!!} But as much as I loathe the idea, I just have to throw my hands up in the air and say, “Wotevah!”

Like I said, I’m just thankful to even have this extra job. The hours are perfect, the pay is good, and the boss and co-workers seem nice ‘n charming {judging by the amount of smiles and “hellos” I received during my little tour}.

Oh, and in case you were wondering: I have no intention of frying eggs in toasters and nuking empty bowls in microwaves. {Those of you on my Facebook page will understand. The rest of you—ahem!—don’t ask.}

THANK THE LORD! for the job! I can totally relate to the (lack of) glamour in your current job situation...but like you, I am accepting "my role" and thankful for the hours that work with our lives. I will pray for you as you start this new adventure! (And yes, glad to hear there won't be any egg / micorwave issues there.) :-)
